Maestro-Aviation eFB/AFDS

Greenflight Systems, (including Maestro-Aviation) AFDS/EFB

NZ Safety Management Systems are pleased to advise that we have been appointed as agents for Maestro-Aviation’s software for an `Electronic Flight Bag’.  The system is designed in accordance with document RTCA/DO-178B, `Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification’, and meets the requirements of Level C (Major) software.  The Maestro software is designed to run on all Class I, II and III EFBs and meets the requirements for Type B software as laid out in:  EASA TGL 36 and FAA AC 120-76A.

Capt William Lonergan has been designing the EFB over a 10 to 12yr period.  He has a good Kiwi background training as a pilot with the RNZAF and then working as a commercial pilot and flying instructor with the Southland Aero Club.  He left for the UK in 1960 and joined the Royal Air Force spending the next 16 years flying the Jet Provost, Gnat and the Hunter.   During this time with the RAF he became an A2 QFI, Instrument Rating Examiner and spent 2 years as an Engineering Test Pilot.

William has a BA in `Mathematics and Management’ from the Open University and an MA in `Systems in Management’ from the University of Lancaster.

From 1976 onwards he was involved with the use of micro-computers in management and production systems applications.  In 1996 he got back into the aviation business working as a consultant to airlines wanting to use the PC for operations management.  This lead to working on Crewing and Flight Operations systems, and to work on the first Runway Performance Computer for a small airline operating the BAC 1-11 500.  Maestro-Aviation was later setup to research and develop applications for the Electronic Flight Bag. This work is on-going......

*** “This software has been written by a pilot for pilots”.*** says William

The EFB:-

  • is certified to the RTCA/DO-178B `Airborne Electronics Software’;
  • there is a nominal capital outlay for the software - this fits in well with `cash-flow’;
  • hardware is the responsibility of the Operator, ie.. touch screen PCs are the optimum;
  • Pricing Models and options are currently under review,
  • the licence fee is offset with an expected fuel saving of +1%;

We believe Maestro EFB is a safety, economic and compelling option for an Airline or Pilot Training Organisation.
